Spread two to three inches of gravel in the bottom for drainage, set the manifold, then lower the box over the valves so the pipes pass through the sides. Backfill around the outside, tamp lightly and snap the lid on. Use the 12 in. deep box where the main line runs at normal trench depth; use the 6 in. box over a shallow valve or set it on top of a 12 in. box when the trench is deeper than one box can reach. Add a separate lid or body later if one gets damaged.
