This classic schooling bat from Weaver Equine pairs an 18-inch shaft with a wide, flat popper that makes a sound more than a sting, so it reinforces a cue without startling a sensitive horse. The comfortable PVC handle gives a sure grip in bare hands or gloves, and the wrist loop keeps the bat with you when you need both hands on the reins. Short enough to carry without catching on the saddle, it is the everyday riding bat for flatwork, lessons, trail rides and the first jumps of the season. Ask with your leg first, and if the horse does not respond, follow with a light tap just behind your leg, then praise the forward step. Use it as a reminder, not a punishment, and keep taps short and quiet. Wipe the shaft and popper with a damp cloth after muddy rides and store it hanging so the shaft stays straight. The 18-inch measurement runs from the end of the handle to the tip of the shaft and does not include the popper; see the measuring guide in the gallery.

Choose Your Color

Both bats are the same 18-inch shaft with the same PVC handle, wrist loop and popper.
