Description
Invite a nesting pair of bluebirds into your yard with the Birds Choice Bluebird House in Sage Recycled Plastic, a compact nest box built from recycled poly lumber in a soft sage green. The 1.5 in entrance hole is sized for bluebirds and helps keep larger birds out, while a side door swings open so you can check on the nest and clean the box out at the end of the season. Because poly lumber will not crack, split or fade, the house looks the same after years of sun and rain, and stainless steel fasteners hold it together without rusting.
Key Features
- Recycled poly lumber: made in the USA from recycled plastic, so it is maintenance free and never needs paint or sealer.
- Bluebird-sized entrance: a 1.5 in hole welcomes bluebirds and discourages bigger competitors.
- Side door for monitoring: open the latched door to peek at eggs, count chicks and clear out old nesting material.
- Stainless steel fasteners: no rust streaks and no loosening over the years.
- About Birds Choice: Birds Choice builds bird houses and feeders in the US Midwest, many of them from recycled plastic lumber.
Where to Mount It
Mount the house on a pole, post or tree at the edge of an open area such as a lawn, meadow or pasture, since bluebirds prefer to hunt insects over short grass. Face the entrance away from prevailing wind and toward a nearby perch or shrub the fledglings can reach on their first flight. Put it up by late winter so it is ready when scouting begins, and check inside every week or two through the side door without lingering. Once the brood has fledged, remove the old nest so the pair can raise another. Rinse the box out each fall with water and a brush.
