Description
Add safe, easy calories to a diet without piling on more grain. Blue Seal Beet Pulp with Molasses is dried sugar beet pulp with molasses added for palatability, and it has been a barn staple for generations because of what it does best. Beet pulp is a highly digestible fiber source that horses ferment in the hindgut the same way they handle hay, which makes it a useful way to put weight on a hard keeper or stretch forage for a senior whose teeth no longer manage long stem hay. Soaked, it also carries water into a horse that does not drink enough.
Key Features
- Highly Digestible Fiber: A forage style calorie source the hindgut handles well, unlike a straight grain meal.
- Molasses Added: Improves acceptance for horses that turn their nose up at plain beet pulp.
- Hay Stretcher: A practical partial replacement for hay when forage is short or expensive.
- Good for Seniors: Soaks into a soft mash that older horses with worn teeth can chew and swallow easily.
- Adds Water to the Diet: A soaked feeding is a simple way to get extra fluid into a poor drinker in winter.
- Mixes Easily: Blends well with grain, supplements, or medications your horse would otherwise sort out.
- Thirty Pound Bag: A manageable size that goes a long way, since dry beet pulp expands considerably once soaked.
How to Use
Soak before feeding. Cover the dry beet pulp with roughly two to three parts water and let it stand until it is soft and fluffy, about twenty to thirty minutes in warm water or several hours in cold. Feed the whole soaked portion, water and all, and mix it with grain or supplements if you like. Introduce it slowly over a week or more, starting with a small amount and building to the level you want. Make only what will be eaten within a few hours, since soaked feed sours fast in warm weather. Keep clean, fresh water available at all times and store the dry bag closed in a cool, dry place.
