Description

Bring cardinals to your feeder with Blue Seal Cardinal Mix Wild Bird Seed, a specialty blend built around the seeds these birds actually want. Blue Seal wild bird products are top-of-the-line mixes for backyard feeding year round, and each variety is blended to attract specific species. Cardinals love sunflower and safflower, so this mix leads with both, then adds whole buckwheat as a treat and one more seed variety for the flock.

Key Features

  • High in Sunflower and Safflower: Generous levels of the two seeds cardinals prefer, so the mix does its job at the feeder instead of sitting untouched.
  • Three Sunflower Forms: Black oil, striped and hulled sunflower chips give birds of different beak sizes an easy way in.
  • Whole Buckwheat Treat: Whole buckwheat rounds out the blend with another seed variety and a bit of welcome variety on the tray.
  • Five Real Ingredients: The entire mix is seed birds eat, with no cheap grain padding out the bag.
  • High-Fat Energy: Guaranteed at 35 percent crude fat minimum, it is a dense energy source for the cold-weather months when birds burn calories fastest just staying warm.
  • Year-Round Feeding: A specialty mix meant for backyard feeding in every season, not only the depths of winter.
  • Convenient Bag Sizes: Offered in 6 and 20 lb bags, so you can choose a small package or a more economical larger one for a busy feeder.

How to Use

Serve Cardinal Mix in a feeder rather than scattered loose on the ground. Cardinals prefer not to perch, so they are most easily drawn to platform-style feeders placed no more than four feet off the ground and reasonably close to shelter such as a hedge or low branches. Keep the tray clean and dry, refill often enough that seed does not sit and cake, and store the bag sealed in a cool, dry place safe from rodents.

Platform and tray feeders are the strongest choice, because cardinals prefer not to perch on small tube ports. Set the feeder no more than four feet off the ground and reasonably close to shrubs or trees the birds can retreat into.
Yes. Sunflower and buckwheat draw a broad range of backyard species, so expect finches, jays, chickadees and doves alongside the cardinals. The blend simply weights the ingredients toward what cardinals choose first.
Sunflower and safflower are shell-on seeds, so hulls will accumulate below the feeder. If a clean deck or patio matters more, a shell-free blend such as Neat Feast is the better fit.
Keep it sealed in a cool, dry place, ideally in a metal or heavy plastic bin that rodents cannot chew through. High-fat seed can go rancid in heat and humidity, so buy a size you will use within a season.
