Description

The Camillus CHUNK™ is the bigger, tougher member of the Camillus folding lineup — a 3 in. titanium-bonded 420 stainless sheepsfoot blade riding on a glass-filled nylon handle with a liner lock. The sheepsfoot grind gives you a flat cutting edge with a strong, blunt tip — ideal for rope, tape, packaging, and any cut where you don’t want the tip to dive in. Titanium bonding triples the blade hardness and adds rust resistance on top of 420’s already-decent corrosion profile. Drop it in a pocket and forget it’s there until you need it.

Why You’d Carry the Chunk

  • Titanium-bonded 420 stainless blade — bonding process makes the steel up to 3× harder than untreated 420 and pushes corrosion / rust resistance well past the baseline; edge retention noticeably better than the base alloy
  • 3 in. sheepsfoot blade — flat edge with a high, blunt tip; perfect for slicing rope, tape, drywall paper, or harvest-cutting tomatoes without stabbing through what you’re cutting
  • Plain flat-grind edge — sharpens easily on a standard kit; no serrated teeth to chew rope or struggle with on a stone
  • Glass-filled nylon handle — Camillus’ proprietary polypropylene + ABS + glass-fill blend; among the strongest and most rigid handle materials in the folding-knife price band
  • Sculpted finger grooves and texture — positive grip wet or dry, gloves on or off
  • Liner lock — standard one-hand close, no axis lock or framelock learning curve; serviceable with a #2 Phillips if the liner ever needs cleaning
  • Stainless pocket clip — deep-carry clip on the back of the handle, includes a lanyard hole for keychain or paracord
  • Thumb stud + flipper-style opening — one-hand deploy in either grip orientation
  • Lightweight at 1 lb shipping weight — comfortable as an everyday-carry; doesn’t tug the pocket

Where It Shines

  • Everyday carry — tape, twine, blister packs, plant ties, the cardboard box that “says” it’s easy to open
  • Garden and yard — cutting baling twine off feed bags, slicing through landscape fabric, opening fertilizer sacks, harvesting squash and pumpkins from the vine
  • Hunting and fishing camp — line, rope, cordage; not a gut hook, so pair with a fixed-blade for game dressing
  • Worksite utility — opening boxes, scoring drywall, cutting strapping, trimming caulk lines
  • Gift for the new contractor / new homeowner — sits in the under-$25 zone where you can buy and not feel bad if they lose it in month one

Care & Sharpening

Cleaning: Wipe the blade with a dry cloth after wet use; for stubborn residue use mild soap and water, then dry thoroughly. The titanium bonding adds corrosion resistance but isn’t invincible — long contact with salt water still warrants a rinse-and-dry.

Sharpening: The 420 substrate sharpens easily on a standard whetstone or ceramic rod at ~20° per side. The titanium-bonded surface holds an edge longer than untreated 420 but you’ll eventually re-sharpen through the bonded layer into the base steel — that’s normal and doesn’t affect performance.

Liner lock service: If the lock-up gets sticky, a drop of light machine oil at the pivot and a wipe-down of the liner with a cotton swab will restore it. Don’t over-tighten the pivot screw — just enough to remove blade play.

Legal Note

Carry laws on folding knife blade lengths vary by state, county, and city. The Chunk’s 3 in. blade is street-legal in most U.S. jurisdictions but check your local statute before carry. Garoppo’s does not ship knives to jurisdictions where they’re restricted.
