Description
Chinchillas do not bathe in water — they roll in dust, and without it their dense coat traps oil and moisture and mats. Kaytee Chinchilla Dust Bath is a high-quality, all-natural dusting powder made for that job. Rolling in it lifts extra oils and moisture out of the fur, which is what leaves the coat clean, dry and properly fluffed rather than greasy at the roots. This 2.5 pound tub is a practical quantity: dust can be sieved and reused a few times before it needs replacing, so a container lasts well. Offer it in a bath house or a deep bowl a few times a week.

Dust bathing is a genuine welfare requirement for chinchillas, not a luxury. Their fur is far too dense to dry properly after a water bath, and a damp coat leads to fungal problems, which is why dust is the only correct method. Getting the frequency right matters in both directions: too little and the coat gets oily and matted, too much and the skin dries out. Two or three short baths a week is the usual balance for most chinchillas.
