Where to Display It
Stake the cardinal where the wind reaches it, such as the open side of a perennial bed, the corner of a vegetable garden or beside a feeder station, and give it clearance so the rocking bird does not brush plants. Push the stake straight down into firm soil and check that the bird swings freely without touching the ground. It reads well against a dark fence, a holly hedge or fresh snow, and pairs naturally with a bird bath or a cluster of feeders. In a heavy storm, pull the stake and set it in the garage to protect the paint. Wipe with a damp cloth to clear pollen and dust.
