Description

Keep your herd on one dependable ration with Field & Farm Llama Alpaca Pellet, formulated for llamas and alpacas at every life stage, including reproduction, growth, work and maintenance. It is high in alfalfa for palatable fiber, cut short to reduce choke risk, and fortified with vitamin E and selenium. Fed with pasture or hay, it gives camelid owners a consistent, easy-to-manage base diet all year round.

Key Features

  • High in Alfalfa: Dehydrated alfalfa meal supplies a palatable fiber source that suits the camelid digestive system.
  • Very Palatable: Built to be readily eaten so intake stays consistent from day to day and animal to animal.
  • Short Pellet Length: Pellets are cut short, roughly one quarter to three eighths of an inch, to minimize the risk of choking.
  • Vitamin E and Selenium: Added levels of both nutrients aid in preventing white muscle disease in young and growing animals.
  • Fixed Components: A consistent formula made from high-quality ingredients prevents sudden diet changes and helps maintain digestive health and function.
  • Chelated Trace Minerals: More bioavailable zinc, copper and manganese support bone, muscle and tissue strength during growth and performance, plus reproductive efficiency in breeding stock.

How to Use

Feed with pasture or hay, adjusting the amount to each animal’s age, size, reproductive status and activity level. Kent suggests roughly 0.5 to 1.0 lb daily for maintenance alpacas and 0.75 to 2.0 lb for llamas, 0.5 to 0.75 lb for growing alpacas and 1.0 to 1.5 lb for growing llamas, and 1.0 to 1.5 lb for pregnant or lactating alpacas and 2.0 to 2.5 lb for llamas. Keep fresh water available, and store the bag in a cool, dry place. Caution: this feed contains supplemental copper and must not be fed to sheep.

No. This pellet contains supplemental copper at 20 ppm minimum, and sheep are highly sensitive to copper. Feed sheep separately on a copper-free ration and make sure they cannot reach the camelid feeders.
Llamas and alpacas are prone to choke, so Kent cuts these pellets to roughly a quarter to three eighths of an inch. The shorter length is easier to chew and swallow, especially for animals that eat quickly.
No. It is fed with pasture and hay, which should still make up the bulk of the diet. Maintenance rates are modest, generally under a pound a day for alpacas, with growing, pregnant and lactating animals eating more.
Blend it with the current ration and increase the proportion over roughly a week, since the fixed component formula is built to avoid sudden diet changes. Store bags in a cool, dry place and do not feed anything that has spoiled or gotten wet.
