Description
Mark hot steel where ink and graphite burn off. The Forney Soapstone Holder Flat Steel grips a 5" x 1/2" flat soapstone in a ruggedly built channel-case body, with a brass-trigger advance and pocket clip so you can mark, weld, mark again without setting it down.
Why Welders and Fabricators Use Soapstone
- Marks survive the heat: Soapstone (talc) leaves a clean visible line on bare steel that doesn’t burn off under the torch or vanish after a tack
- Channel-case design: Flat steel body protects the soapstone from snapping in your apron pocket or on the bench
- Brass-trigger advance: Press with thumb to index to the next positive stop — one-handed operation while the other hand stays on the work
- Pocket clip: Spring clip fits a welding apron pocket, shop coat, or shirt pocket
- Fewer parts, more soapstone: Simple mechanism wears longer than spring-loaded plastic holders
- Industry standard: Same design widely used and preferred across the welding trade
Use Cases
Layout marks on plate steel before cutting, fit-up marks for welds, dimension marks on tubing and angle iron, identifying weld locations, marking cut lines for plasma or torch, fabrication shop layout, structural steel labeling, fitter and welder benchwork.
