Description
FoxFarm Open Sesame is a high-phosphorus, water-soluble fertilizer (5–45–19) formulated for the early weeks of flowering. When your plants transition out of vegetative growth and begin to set buds, Open Sesame delivers a concentrated burst of phosphorus and potassium right at the root zone to trigger vigorous blooming and strong early bud development. Use it in soil, soilless mixes, containers, hydroponic, and aeroponic systems.
Open Sesame is the first step in FoxFarm's Soluble Trio — a sequential bloom-feeding program of Open Sesame (early flowering), followed by Beastie Bloomz (mid-bloom), and Cha Ching (late ripening). Together they carry plants through the entire flowering cycle.
What It Does
- Triggers early flowering — the high phosphorus charge signals plants to shift energy into bud and flower production
- Encourages multiple bud set for more abundant blooms
- Supports bigger flowers and stronger early fruit/bud formation
- Fast-acting and fully soluble — dissolves completely and goes straight to work at the root zone
- Versatile — works in soil, soilless, hydroponic, and aeroponic setups
How to Use
Stand-alone use:
- Hydroponic systems: 1 tsp (6 g) per gallon (4 L) of water in the reservoir. Flush every two weeks.
- Soil: ½ to 1 tsp (3–6 g) per gallon (4 L) of water. Feed once per week.
Combined with other nutrients:
- Hydroponic systems: ¼ to ½ tsp (1.5–3 g) per gallon (4 L) in the reservoir.
- Soil: ¼ to ½ tsp (1.5–3 g) per gallon (4 L) of water. Feed once per week.
Garden tip: Feed with Open Sesame every other watering, starting around the fifth or sixth week of a plant's life. Always fill your reservoir with fresh water, add Open Sesame to the final volume of water, and mix thoroughly. Do not mix soluble powders together in dry form, and do not use as a foliar spray. Always adjust fertilizer dosage to plant response, and refer to the FoxFarm Feeding Schedule for best results.

What Do the Numbers 5-45-19 Mean?
The three numbers on every fertilizer label are the N–P–K ratio — the percentage by weight of the three primary plant nutrients:
- 5 — Nitrogen (N): drives leafy, vegetative growth. It's intentionally low here because Open Sesame is built for flowering, not foliage — you don't want a surge of new leaves once the plant should be setting buds.
- 45 — Phosphorus (P₂O₅): the star of this formula. Phosphorus fuels root development, energy transfer, and — most importantly — flower and bud formation. The very high 45 is what makes Open Sesame a true bloom-initiator.
- 19 — Potassium (K₂O): supports overall plant vigor, water regulation, and the quality and structure of the flowers that phosphorus helps initiate.
In short, a 5–45–19 blend tells you this is a low-nitrogen, very-high-phosphorus, moderate-potassium fertilizer — exactly the profile you want to kick off the flowering stage.
