Description

Keep your breeding flock in steady condition without overdoing the energy. Home Fresh Shepherd 16 Sheep Feed is a pelleted, moderate-energy complete grain ration for sheep, formulated as an ideal maintenance feed for mature sheep and especially suited to the breeding flock. It carries no added copper, so it is safe for every sheep on the place, from maintenance through gestation and lactation.

Key Features

  • No Added Copper: Formulated without added copper so it maintains optimum health in a species that is genuinely copper sensitive.
  • Sixteen Percent Protein: A moderate-energy, 16% protein ration that holds condition on mature sheep without pushing unwanted gain.
  • Vitamin E and Selenium: Included at levels that aid in the prevention of white muscle disease in the flock.
  • Helps Prevent Urinary Calculi: Ammonium chloride aids in the prevention of urinary calculi and urinary tract blockage in rams and wethers.
  • Rumen-Protected B-Vitamins: Targeted delivery promotes efficient gains and optimal immune response while supporting nutrient metabolism.
  • Prebiotics for a Healthy Gut: Prebiotics support normal rumen microbial fermentation, helping sheep digest essential fiber properly.
  • NutriVantage® Nutrition Optimizer®: Kent's blend of organic macromolecules, trace minerals and antioxidants helps sheep get more from every bite.
  • Fixed Component Formula: A precise ingredient range keeps the ration consistent bag to bag, supporting healthy digestive function.

How to Use

Feed alongside good quality hay or pasture, a sheep mineral, and fresh, clean water offered daily. Suggested rates run 0.25 to 0.75 lb per head per day for maintenance, 0.75 to 1.25 lb through gestation, 1.50 to 3.00 lb during lactation, and 1.00 to 2.00 lb for replacement breeding stock. Shepherd 16 may also be fed to growing lambs where an optimum rate of gain is not the goal. Treat these ranges as a guide, since management, environment and breed shift requirements. Store the bag in a cool, dry place, well away from any copper-containing goat or horse feed.

Start at 0.25 to 0.75 lb per head daily for maintenance, move to 0.75 to 1.25 lb through gestation, and go to 1.50 to 3.00 lb during lactation. Increase gradually rather than in one jump so the rumen keeps up.
Sheep accumulate copper in the liver and can be poisoned by levels that goats and horses handle without trouble. Shepherd 16 is formulated without added copper, which is why goat or horse feed should never be substituted for it.
Yes, where an optimum rate of gain is not desired. It is a moderate-energy maintenance ration, so lambs on it will grow steadily rather than finish quickly; a dedicated lamb program suits a fast finish better.
Yes. Kent's directions call for a sheep mineral offered alongside the pellet, plus good quality hay or pasture and fresh water every day. The pellet is a complete grain ration, not the whole diet.
