Description

The Ivy Classic angle-grinder arbor adapter converts a 5/8 in.-11 (US-thread) cup brush or wire wheel onto a metric-threaded (M10) angle grinder spindle. Zinc-plated alloy steel, hex profile for wrench fitment. Two thread pitches cover virtually every metric grinder on the market — M10x1.25mm (Bosch, Makita, Metabo, some Hitachi) and M10x1.5mm (DeWalt, Milwaukee, Ryobi, most consumer-grade metric grinders).

What This Does

Wire-brush attachments — cup brushes, wheel brushes, knot-style brushes — are dominantly available in the US with 5/8 in.-11 (5/8 inch diameter, 11 threads per inch) arbor threads, matching most US-market angle grinders. Metric-spindle grinders (sold primarily in Europe and Asia, but increasingly in US tool lineups too) use M10 metric threads, in one of two pitches: 1.25mm or 1.5mm. The grinder will reject the wrong-pitched brush even if the diameter matches.

This adapter has a 5/8 in.-11 female bore (cup brush threads in) and an M10 male shank in the chosen pitch (threads into the grinder spindle). It's the bridge between US-thread accessories and metric-thread grinders.

How to Pick Which Thread Pitch

  • M10x1.25mm — Bosch (most models), Makita (most models), Metabo (most models), some Hitachi. If your grinder is a Japanese or German pro brand, this is usually the right pitch.
  • M10x1.5mm — DeWalt, Milwaukee, Ryobi, Black & Decker, most consumer-grade and battery-platform US grinders that use metric spindles.
  • When in doubt: remove the existing nut/disc from the grinder and look at the thread pitch with calipers, or check the grinder's documentation. The threads physically don't interchange — a 1.25 brush won't snug down on a 1.5 spindle (it'll feel loose and immediately strip the threads if used).

What You Get

  • Zinc-plated alloy-steel adapter — corrosion-resistant for tool-bag and shop-floor durability
  • 5/8 in.-11 female bore — accepts any standard US-thread cup brush, wire wheel, or knot brush
  • M10 male shank — in your chosen pitch (1.25mm or 1.5mm)
  • Hex profile — takes an open-end wrench (or strap wrench, or even pliers) to snug down or release
  • Single-piece machined construction — no welds to fail at brush-rotation speed
  • Sized for normal angle-grinder torque — the adapter won't fail at the grinder's rated output

Where It Fits in the Workflow

  • Wire-brush kit on a metric grinder: you already own a set of 5/8 in.-11 cup brushes and the new grinder has metric threads — this lets you keep using the brushes without buying a second set.
  • Job-site tool sharing: when one crew member's metric grinder needs to run a brush from another crew member's US-thread accessory kit.
  • Wheel sharing across brands: some wire wheels, polishing pads, and flap discs in 5/8 in.-11 don't have a metric equivalent in your size — the adapter is the bridge.

Installation

Step 1: remove the existing wheel / nut / arbor cap from the grinder spindle (most grinders have a spanner wrench supplied with the tool).

Step 2: thread the adapter onto the grinder spindle by hand (M10 male end into the grinder). Snug with the hex flats using an open-end wrench — about 1/8 turn past hand-tight, no more.

Step 3: thread your cup brush or wire wheel onto the adapter (5/8 in.-11 end). Hand-tight is usually enough — the brush self-tightens against rotation under load.

Step 4: spin the grinder at low speed for a few seconds before applying to the work to confirm the brush runs true. If it wobbles, stop the grinder and re-thread — cross-threading destroys the adapter and the brush fast.

Safety Notes

  • Match the brush's max RPM to the grinder. A brush rated for 10,000 RPM on an 11,000 RPM grinder is a thrown-wire hazard. Check both labels.
  • Wear eye protection. Wire-brush wires shed during use — flying steel splinters are the #1 wire-brush injury.
  • Verify the adapter is tight before each session. A loose adapter under load will unthread itself and throw the brush.
  • Don't use damaged or partially-stripped adapters. Zinc plating wear is OK; visible thread damage or stripped flats are stop-work conditions.
