Description

Smooth drywall patches, feather paint edges and knock down rough wood with the IVY Classic Sanding Sponge, a palm-sized foam block coated on all four sides with Flex-Abrasive aluminum oxide grit. The sponge measures 3-7/8" x 2-5/8" x 1", small enough to grip in one hand and flexible enough to follow a curved chair rail or a rounded corner bead. Pick the grit for the job: 80/80 is a medium cut for shaping and stripping, and 120/120 is a fine cut for finishing before paint.

Key Features

  • Two grits: The 80/80 Grit sponge is medium on all faces for fast material removal; the 120/120 Grit sponge is fine on all faces for a paint-ready finish.
  • Coated on four sides: Every face carries aluminum oxide abrasive, so you rotate to a fresh side instead of reaching for a new sheet.
  • Wet or dry: Use it dry on drywall and bare wood, or wet on painted surfaces and auto body work, then rinse it out and use it again.
  • Outlasts sandpaper: The Flex-Abrasive coating on foam holds up far longer than a folded sheet and will not tear or crease in a corner.
  • About IVY Classic: IVY Classic supplies drywall, paint and fastening tools to hardware and building supply dealers, with the Flex-Abrasive line covering sponges and pads.

How to Use It

Start with the 80/80 sponge when you need to level a joint compound patch, take the gloss off old paint or ease a sharp wood edge. Work with light, even pressure and let the grit cut. Switch to the 120/120 sponge for the final pass so brush strokes and swirl marks disappear before primer goes on. On plaster, plastic and fiberglass, wet the sponge to keep dust down and to stop the grit from loading up. When the surface clogs, rinse the sponge under a tap, wring it out and keep going. Squeeze it into inside corners and around trim profiles where a sanding block cannot reach.
