Description

Grow a fresh salad bar for your reptile with the Komodo Grow Your Own Dandelion Reptile Food Kit. Everything you need arrives in one small container, seed and potting soil included, so all you add is water and a warm spot. Bearded dragons and tortoises love dandelion greens, and growing your own means the freshest possible food with no pesticides and no extra trip to the store.

Key Features

  • Complete kit: Includes 1 oz of dandelion seed and 9.4 cu in of potting soil in the growing container.
  • Grow in or out of the tank: Sprout it on a windowsill, or set the container right in the habitat and let your reptile graze from the pot.
  • Grown without pesticides: You control exactly what goes into the soil, so you know the greens are safe.
  • Built for herbivores: Dandelion is a staple green for bearded dragons, tortoises, and other plant eating herps.
  • Made in the USA: Seed and kit produced domestically.
  • Cheaper than store greens: One kit yields repeated cuttings, which beats buying a bunch of greens that wilts before a single reptile finishes it.

How to Use

Before removing the lid, make four to six small holes in the bottom of the container for drainage. Take off the lid, open the seed pack, and stir the seeds into the soil so they end up lightly covered. Put the container on a small saucer, add water until the soil is completely moist, then drain any excess. Cover loosely and place it in a warm, dark area. When the seeds start growing, remove the lid and move the container to a sunny spot, watering whenever the soil surface becomes dry. Once the sprouts are about 4 inches high they are ready for your reptile to eat. Cut the greens with scissors rather than pulling them up, and the crown will push out a second flush.

Seeds usually sprout within a week in a warm, dark spot. Plan on a few weeks from planting until the greens reach the roughly 4 inch height where they are ready to feed.
No. The container doubles as the growing pot and the kit includes both the dandelion seed and the potting soil, so water is the only thing you add.
Yes, and that is a big part of the appeal. Once the greens are established, set the pot in the enclosure and let your reptile graze, or snip greens and serve them in a dish.
Bearded dragons and tortoises are the main audience, and dandelion also suits uromastyx, iguanas, and other herbivorous or omnivorous species that take leafy greens.
Dandelion will regrow from the crown if you cut rather than pull the plants and keep the soil moist and lit, though yields taper off after several cuttings.
