Description

The LebanonTurf ProScape Sportsturf Mix is a professional-grade cool-season grass seed blend built for high-traffic lawns and athletic fields. The mix combines turf-type tall fescue (the workhorse), perennial ryegrass (for fast establishment), and Kentucky bluegrass (for the self-repairing fine-leaf finish) so you get the strengths of all three species in one bag — quick green-up, durable wear tolerance, and a dense canopy that crowds out weeds.

What's In the Bag

  • 70% Turf-Type Tall Fescue — deep roots, heat and drought tolerance, the durable backbone of the blend
  • 20% Perennial Ryegrass — germinates in 5–10 days for fast cover; good wear tolerance for paths and play areas
  • 10% Kentucky Bluegrass — spreads by rhizomes to fill in worn spots and gives the finished lawn a finer texture

Why It's the Right Mix for Sports & Family Lawns

  • Wear-resistant by design — the blend is formulated for ballfields, backyard play areas, and high-traffic residential lawns
  • Fast establishment — ryegrass shows green in 5–10 days while tall fescue and KBG mature underneath
  • Self-repairing — Kentucky bluegrass spreads into bare patches that high-traffic areas inevitably create
  • Cool-season blend — suited for the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, transition zone, and Midwest; established by late summer/early fall for best results
  • Professional formulation — the same mix LebanonTurf supplies to athletic-field maintenance crews

When & How to Seed

  1. Time it right — late summer to early fall is best for cool-season grasses (soil ~55–65°F); early spring is the second-best window if you missed fall
  2. Prep the soil — rake out debris, loosen the top 1–2 in. with a hand rake or core aerator, and level low spots
  3. Apply at recommended rate — for new lawns: 6–8 lb per 1,000 sq ft. For overseeding existing turf: 3–4 lb per 1,000 sq ft
  4. Rake lightly — just enough to settle the seed into soil contact (1/8–1/4 in.); too deep and seedlings won't reach the surface
  5. Water consistently — keep the top 1/2 in. of soil moist (light, frequent watering) until germination, then transition to deeper, less frequent watering
  6. First mow — wait until grass is 3–4 in. tall, then cut no more than a third of the blade. Use sharp blades to avoid pulling young seedlings out

Coverage

  • 25 lb bag: covers ~3,000–4,000 sq ft new lawn / ~6,000–8,000 sq ft overseed
  • 50 lb bag: covers ~6,000–8,000 sq ft new lawn / ~12,000–16,000 sq ft overseed

Best Paired With

  • Starter fertilizer — high-phosphorus formula (e.g., 18-24-12) applied at seeding promotes root development
  • Straw mulch or seed-starting blanket — retains moisture and shades emerging seedlings
  • Core aerator rental — before overseeding to improve soil contact and reduce thatch
  • Soil test — check pH (target 6.0–7.0); lime if needed before seeding
