Description
Martin's Pramitol 25E is a non-selective post-emergent bare-ground herbicide that acts as a soil sterilant — one application can prevent plant growth for up to one year. Use it where you need vegetation gone and gone for a long time: under storage-shed pads, around fence lines and fuel tanks, along railroad sidings, in lumberyards, and on industrial gravel pads. One gallon treats up to 10,000 square feet.
Not for residential lawn use. This is a commercial-grade, total-vegetation-control herbicide. The treated area will be bare ground for months and won't safely host turf, ornamentals, or vegetables for a year or more after application. Read the section below carefully before buying.
Active Ingredient & Mode of Action
- 25% Prometon (2,4-bis(isopropylamino)-6-methoxy-s-triazine) — 75% inert ingredients
- Mode of action: WSSA Group 5 (Photosystem II inhibitor)
- Activity: post-emergent (kills existing weeds) and residual soil sterilant (prevents new growth)
- Contains 2 lbs of active ingredient per gallon
What It Kills
- Hard-to-control perennials: Johnsongrass, bindweed, quackgrass, plantain, wild carrot, goldenrod, puncturevine
- Annual weeds and grasses: downy bromegrass, oatgrass, goosegrass
- Perennial weeds and grasses across most species
- Other “hard to control” broadleaf and grassy weeds where bare-ground vegetation control is the goal
Where To Use It
- Industrial sites — bare-ground around buildings, equipment yards, storage tanks, transformer pads
- Fence lines — chain-link, post-and-wire, perimeter fencing
- Fuel tanks & pumps — under and around above-ground fuel storage
- Roadways, railroad sidings, highway medians — where vegetation interferes with sightlines or operations
- Lumberyards & industrial sites — under stacked product, around yard perimeters
- Airports, recreational areas (per label-approved use), pipelines, rights-of-way
- Non-crop farm areas — equipment parking, machinery storage, gravel drives
Where NOT To Use It
- Residential lawns — the product is not labeled for home turf and will kill grass
- Vegetable gardens, flower beds, food crops — soil residue lasts up to a year
- Near desirable trees and shrubs — roots can extend 2× the canopy width and pick up residue from treated soil; keep well away from drip lines
- On slopes that drain toward desirable plantings or water — residue can move with runoff
- Where you'll want to plant something within the next year
How To Apply
- Read the full product label before mixing or applying (linked below). State approvals, mixing ratios, and use-site restrictions vary.
- Mix the rate per the label for your specific use site (ranges from about 4–8 quarts per acre depending on weed species and desired residual; spot-application rates are higher).
- Apply with a calibrated sprayer — backpack, ATV-mounted, or skid-mounted boom — to achieve uniform coverage of the soil surface and any existing vegetation.
- Best timing: apply when weeds are actively growing for fastest post-emergent knockdown, but the soil sterilant effect works regardless. Cooler-weather application may delay visible kill but doesn't reduce residual activity.
- Rain after application moves the product into the soil — ideally apply when rain is in the 1–2 week forecast but not in the next 24 hours.
- Avoid drift — don't spray on windy days; downwind desirable plants can be damaged.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) — long sleeves, long pants, chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection. See SDS for full handling guidance.

- Signal word: CAUTION on the current Control Solutions label (older Martin's/MANA labels show WARNING; both reflect the same active ingredient but updated EPA toxicity classification — follow the signal word on the bottle you actually receive)
- Keep out of reach of children
- First-aid statements — see inside the bottle's booklet label and the linked SDS
