How to Install It
Set the grate into the seat molded along the top of the Mini Channel once the channel is bedded and the surrounding concrete or pavers are finished flush with the rim. Butt grates end to end along the run. This part, 541, is the grate only; NDS part 541-1 is the same grate packaged with screws if you want it fastened down. NDS publishes installation details for pedestrian, pool deck and vehicular applications, so match the bedding to how the drain will be loaded. Clean the drain by lifting the grate, flushing the channel with a hose and dropping the grate back in place. Keep a spare on hand for pool areas where grates get moved often.

Installation
Install grates after the channel is bedded and the adjacent concrete or paver surface is finished about 1/8 in. above the grate so runoff sheets in. Follow the NDS pedestrian, pool deck or vehicular installation detail that matches the load case; each detail specifies bedding and haunching around the channel, and NDS does not publish a load class on the grate page, so do not promise one to the client. Keep the grate seat clean of mortar and polymeric sand during the finish work so the grate sits flush; a proud grate is a trip edge on a pool deck and a snowplow catch on a driveway apron. Pull the grate and flush the channel at seasonal cleanouts, and order 541-1 instead of adding field screws to 541 when the run needs a fastened grate.
