Description

The Swiss-made clamp that contractors trust on the irrigation manifolds they can’t come back to. Oetiker’s 1-Ear Stainless Stepless clamp closes in a single pincer stroke, locks shut with a mechanical interlock instead of a spot weld, and stays sealed at full pressure year after year — even on poly pipe sitting in wet soil. The 1″ size (part 15500220, Ref. 331) is designed to clamp over a 1″ poly-pipe-on-barb connection, with a closing range of 30.0–32.2 mm (1.181–1.268 in) to handle the OD spread you get from real-world pipe and barb tolerance.

Why Pros Pick Oetiker Over the Cheap Worm-Drive

  • Mechanical interlock closure — no spot weld, no corroded fail point, no surprise gap opening up in year three
  • Stainless steel band (1.4301 / UNS S30400) — ≥ 1000 hours salt-spray corrosion resistance (DIN EN ISO 9227), built to live underground or in wet valve boxes
  • Single-stroke tool closure — one squeeze on the pincer and you’re done, no secondary crimping
  • Visible ear deformation — you can SEE that the clamp closed correctly, no guesswork
  • Raised dimple in the band — increases radial clamping force without extra band thickness
  • Burr-free band edges — won’t cut into soft poly pipe over time
  • ToolFit Technology — the ear ships pre-crimped at the factory so the pincer seats squarely and doesn’t slip during the squeeze
  • Made in USA

Why ToolFit Matters

On a standard 1-ear clamp, the ear has roughly a 5.6° angle when you reach for it — that’s tight, and the pincer jaws can slip off-center if you’re working in a trench at an awkward angle. The ToolFit ear is pre-crimped to 18° at the factory, giving the pincer a wider, deeper seat. The result: fewer botched crimps, fewer comebacks, faster install on long runs.

Where It Shines

  • Drip and emitter line connections on 1″ poly distribution mains
  • Service-call replacements on failed worm-drive or import ear clamps
  • Low-voltage / outdoor environments where a stainless band outlasts a zinc or plated steel clamp by 5+ years
  • Any irrigation install in the rust belt or coastal zones where corrosion is the #1 callback cause

  • Corrosion resistance: ≥ 1000 hours (DIN EN ISO 9227, salt spray)
  • Reusable: No — cut off and replace after removal
  • Origin: Made in USA
  • Approximate weight: Listed at 1 lb pack (per Garoppo’s pricing unit)

Compatible Closing Tools

  • Manual: Oetiker HMK 01 or S01 pincers
  • Pneumatic: Oetiker HO ME 2000
  • Cordless: Oetiker CP 01

Important: Close in a single tool stroke. Do not crimp twice. The mechanical interlock seats during the first squeeze; a second pass can damage the clamp and weaken the seal. If you mis-position, cut the clamp off and use a fresh one.

Install Notes

  • Slide the open clamp over the hose BEFORE pushing the hose onto the barb — you can’t open it back up once it’s sitting on the fitting
  • Push the hose fully home onto the barb — until it bottoms out
  • Position the clamp directly over the barb’s clamping band (the smooth section between the barbs)
  • Squeeze the pincer once with steady force until the ear closes flush — the band will deform visibly into the interlock
  • Pressure-test the connection before backfilling the trench
