Hold a crisp line between lawn and bed with Oly-Ola Black Edg-Knight 20 ft. x 5 in. Landscape Edging, a heavy black polyethylene strip built to stay put through New Jersey winters. Each 20 ft. length stands 5 in. tall with a 1 in. round bead along the top and a double v-lip anchor along the buried wall, the feature that keeps it from lifting when the ground freezes and thaws. It is made from 100 percent recycled medium-density polyethylene with no fillers, and Oly-Ola backs it with a 20 year guarantee. Sold as a single 20 ft. strip.
Key Features
-
Double v-lip anchor: Two lips along the buried wall grip the soil and resist frost heave better than any single v-lip edging.
-
Round top bead: The 1 in. bead sits just above grade as a clean mower guide with no sharp edge.
-
Recycled polyethylene: Pure medium-density polyethylene with 4 percent carbon black and no blown-in fillers, 0.09 to 0.105 in. thick.
-
Forms with heat: Warm it with a heat gun or propane torch (no direct contact) to bend tight curves and corners.
-
About Oly-Ola: Oly-Ola Edgings makes lawn, landscape and paver edging from recycled polyethylene and stands behind Black Edg-Knight with a 20 year guarantee.
How to Install It
Cut a narrow trench along the bed line, set the edging so the round bead rides just above the soil and the double v-lip sits below, then backfill and tamp both sides. Drive a nail or Oly-Ola 9.25 in. stake (sold separately) through the edging wall at a 45 degree angle every 4 ft. Join strips with the Oly-Ola Jack/Knight crosslock connector (sold separately); check that the stamp on the edging reads Jack first, because the crosslock is not universal. Use it as a bed divider, a mulch stop or a paver edge restraint, and warm it gently to shape tight curves around trees and island beds.

Oly-Ola Black Edg-Knight is a 5 in. high, 20 ft. long polyethylene edge restraint and bed divider with a 1 in. round top bead and a double v-lip anchor along the buried wall. Wall thickness averages 0.09 to 0.105 in., the same class as Edg-King; the double v-lip is the difference, and it resists frost heave better than any single v-lip section on the market. Material is 100 percent recycled medium-density polyethylene with 4 percent carbon black concentrate, no fillers or blown-in material, melt factor under 2. Oly-Ola guarantees it for 20 years. Sold per 20 ft. strip; manufacturer bundles are 5 strips per flat bundle, 34 lb. Figure linear feet of bed line divided by 20, rounded up, plus one connector per joint and one stake per 4 ft.
Key Features
- Double v-lip anchor: Two lips on the buried wall lock into compacted backfill on both faces; specify it on freeze-thaw sites and clay soils where single-lip sections walk out of the ground.
- Round top bead: 1 in. bead sits at or just above grade as a mower guide and a rounded finish edge; no sharp flange exposed to foot traffic.
- Pure MDPE: No fillers or regrind blends; the section stays flexible in cold weather and does not chalk or go brittle under UV, backed by a 20 year guarantee.
- Heat formable: Heat gun or propane torch, no contact, to set tight radii around trees, island beds and paver curves without kerf cuts.
- System hardware: Joins with the Oly-Ola Jack/Knight crosslock connector; stake with the 9.25 in. Oly-Ola stake or a nail; both sold separately. Verify the section stamp reads Jack before ordering connectors.
Installation
Excavate a narrow trench along the layout line to the depth of the edging less the bead, set the section with the round bead at finished grade and the double v-lip fully below, and backfill and compact both sides so the lips are engaged. Stake through the edging wall at 45 degrees every 4 ft., driving toward the bed side, with additional stakes at joints, ends and radii. Connect strips with the crosslock connector and pull joints tight before staking. For paver edge restraint, set the edging against the outside course on the compacted base, stake, then backfill topsoil to the bead. On radii, warm the section evenly with a heat gun or torch held off the surface, form to the curve and stake immediately. In frost-prone beds, keep the top bead at grade rather than proud so mower decks and plow blades do not catch it.
