Set a paver drain at exactly the right height, then change your mind later without tearing anything up. The Pave Tool Quick-E-Adjustable Patio Drain Plastic is a tan, high-strength plastic drain body with an 8" x 8" square grate that rises and lowers on a threaded adjustment. Turn it with a drill or socket wrench and the grate travels a full 3", from 6-1/2" condensed to 9-1/2" fully extended. It gives you the same adjustability as the stainless version in a lighter, lower-cost package built for patios, walkways and pool decks.
Key Features
-
Adjust before or after: Dial the grate height with a drill or socket wrench while you set the bedding, and fine-tune again once the pavers are down for a dead-flush finish.
-
3 in of travel: The body condenses to 6-1/2" and extends to 9-1/2", so one drain covers a wide range of base and paver thicknesses.
-
Fits common pipe: The 4" male end slips into female 4" SDR 35, triple wall and S&D pipe with a 3-3/8" opening through the drain.
-
Easy maintenance: If pavers shift or settle over the years, raise or lower the drain to keep water moving instead of resetting it.
-
About Pave Tool: Pave Tool Innovators designs the Quick-E line of hardscape tools and accessories used by professional paver installers.
How to Install It
Run 4" drain pipe to the low point of the patio and connect the drain’s 4" male end to the female pipe end. Set the drain body in the base at roughly the finished grade, then screed and lay pavers around the 8" x 8" grate. Once the field is compacted, put a drill or socket wrench on the adjuster and turn until the grate sits flush with the paver surface so water sheets straight in. Check it again after the first season. If the patio settles, a few turns bring the grate back to level. Keep the grate clear of leaves and joint sand so the 3-3/8" opening stays open.

Pave Tool Quick-E-Adjustable Patio Drain (Plastic), model NT1042, is a threaded height-adjustable point drain for interlocking paver fields. 8" x 8" grate, 3-3/8" throat, 4" male outlet to female 4" SDR 35, triple wall or S&D pipe. 3" of vertical travel (6-1/2" condensed to 9-1/2" extended) driven by a drill or socket wrench from the top, before or after the pavers are set. High-strength tan plastic body; same adjustment mechanism as the stainless Quick-E drain at a lower unit cost and weight. Take-off: one drain per low point plus one 4" pipe connection each.
Key Features
- Post-install adjustment: Set to finished grade after compaction without excavating. Eliminates the reset-the-drain callback when a field settles.
- Travel: 3" total, covering typical 2-3/8" paver plus bedding sand over a range of base depths.
- Connection: 4" male spigot into female 4" SDR 35, triple wall or S&D. No adapter.
- Grate: 8" x 8" square, 3-3/8" clear opening. Lays out cleanly on a 4" or 6" module.
- Body: High-strength plastic. Lighter to ship and carry than stainless; specify stainless where an architectural finish is called for.
Installation
Pipe to the low point at minimum slope, connect the drain outlet to the female pipe end, and set the body at approximate finished grade in the base. Screed bedding and lay pavers to the grate, compact the field, then drive the adjuster until the grate sits flush with the paver surface (slightly below is acceptable; never proud). Re-check after joint sand activation and again after the first freeze-thaw season. Keep the throat clear of polymeric sand during installation.
Spec Notes
The adjustable body removes the usual conflict between setting the drain early (so the pipe run is buried before base compaction) and getting the grate to finished grade (which is not known until the field is screeded). Set it early, dial it in at the end. On the take-off, count one drain per low point and add the pipe run, fittings and the 4" female connection; no adapter is needed for SDR 35, triple wall or S&D. The plastic body is the value option: same 8" x 8" grate, same 3" of travel and the same drill-driven adjuster as the stainless version, with less weight on the truck. Specify the stainless unit only where the client wants a metal grate in the finished surface. Store shipping weight is 11 lb; sold per unit as Qty. 1 Plastic Drain (model NT1042).
