Move heavy retaining wall block from the pallet to the base course without wrecking your back or the block face. The Pave Tool Quick-E-BL 180 Block Clamp is a self-locking, zinc-plated steel clamp that grips units up to 180 lb across an adjustable 7" to 18" span. Serrated teeth bite the block sides, the locking teeth engage before you pick, and the load rides straight down through the clamp body. Carry it by hand, hang it from the Quick-E-Ergo Assist, or hook it to an excavator.
Key Features
-
180 lb capacity: Rated for wall block up to 180 lb, which covers the large base and corner units that are the hardest part of any wall to place by hand.
-
Adjustable 7 to 18 in: One clamp spans everything from small cap units to full-depth base block, with a self-locking mechanism that holds the setting.
-
Hand or machine: Use it as a two-person hand tool, pair it with the Quick-E-Ergo Assist, or hang it from an excavator hook for machine placement.
-
Damage-free setting: Serrated teeth grip securely; add the optional BL 180 Protective Ends (NT02201) to keep split-face and smooth block surfaces free of scuffs.
-
About Pave Tool: Pave Tool Innovators makes the Quick-E BL series of block and slab clamps for hardscape crews, from this hand model up to 3,000 lb machine clamps.
How to Use It
Open the clamp wider than the block, set the serrated jaws on opposite sides and make sure the locking teeth are engaged before you lift. Never pick a block with the lock disengaged. Lift straight up so the clamp tightens under load, carry the block to the wall and lower it onto the base or the course below. Release the lock and the jaws open. For long walls, hang the clamp from the Quick-E-Ergo Assist or an excavator hook and guide placement while the machine lifts. Fit the protective ends when the block face will show.

Pave Tool Quick-E-BL 180 Block Clamp, model NT022. Hand or machine block clamp for segmental retaining wall units up to 180 lb. Adjustable 7" to 18" jaw, self-locking, serrated teeth. 9 lb clamp weight. Works as a hand tool, on the Quick-E-Ergo Assist, or hung from an excavator hook. Intended for accurate, damage-free placement of base course and large corner units. Optional Protective Ends NT02201 (kit NT022K) for finished faces. Sits at the small end of Pave Tool's BL line, which runs to the BL 3000 machine clamp.
Key Features
- Rating: 180 lb working load. Covers full-depth base units and most corner blocks.
- Jaw: 7" to 18" adjustable, self-locking. Locking teeth must be engaged before the pick.
- Grip: Serrated teeth on both jaws. Add Protective Ends where the block face is exposed.
- Rigging: Hand carry, Ergo Assist, or excavator hook. Load path is vertical through the clamp body.
- Weight: 9 lb, zinc-plated steel.
Use
Set the jaw wider than the unit, seat both jaws on opposing sides, confirm the lock is engaged, then lift straight up. Never pick with the lock open or with the jaws on a chamfered edge. Lower onto the leveling pad or course below, release the lock, retract. On machine picks, keep the hook centered over the block and use a tag line for alignment. Inspect teeth and lock before each shift.
Spec Notes
The BL 180 is the base-course tool. Setting the first course of a segmental wall by hand is where crews lose time and where blocks get chipped on the corners; a clamp that centers the load and releases cleanly lets one setter place and align units the mini-excavator cannot reach. It also converts to a machine pick on the same jaw, so a wall with a mix of hand and machine placement needs one clamp, not two. Where the block face is exposed (seat walls, columns, corners), price in the Protective Ends or order the NT022K kit up front; retrofitting after scuffing is not an option. Serrated teeth are the grip on standard split-face and smooth units; on very hard or polished cap units, test the bite on a scrap before committing to a machine pick. Store shipping weight is 23 lb; clamp weight in Pave Tool's spec table is 9 lb. Model NT022, sold per unit.
