Description

Run MIG, flux-core, or stick beads from one compact machine with the PrimeWeld MIG160 Portable Flux Core MIG Welder. This 160 amp inverter welder plugs into ordinary 110V household current through the included adapter pigtail, or into 220V for full output, and joins mild steel up to 1/4" thick. Switch to gasless flux-cored wire when a gas cylinder is impractical or a breeze would blow shielding gas off the arc. At about 23 lb, with a front panel of plain knobs and selectors, the MIG160 moves easily from garage bench to jobsite.

Key Features

  • Three processes, one box: MIG (GMAW), flux-core (FCAW), and stick (MMA) welding; a built-in gas solenoid and Euro-style connector handle gas-shielded MIG.
  • Dual voltage input: single phase 110V or 220V at 60 Hz, giving up to 160 A MIG and 140 A stick on 220V, or 120 A MIG and 110 A stick on 110V.
  • Gasless flux-core capable: runs 0.030–0.035" flux-cored wire with no gas bottle and loads 1 lb and 2 lb spools.
  • Protection built in: cold electrode, overcurrent, overheating, and power spike protection on a fan-cooled IGBT inverter.
  • About PrimeWeld: a Blackwood, New Jersey welding equipment maker that backs every machine with a 3-year warranty and US-based support six days a week.

How to Use It

Set the MIG/MMA selector for the process you want, then dial voltage and wire speed to suit the metal. Choose 2T so the arc runs only while you squeeze the trigger, or 4T to lock it on for long passes. Load solid wire for gas MIG or flux-cored wire for gasless work, and fit the matching drive roll. Keep about 1/2" of stick-out at the contact tip, push the gun up to 15° with solid wire, and drag it with flux-core. Lay a stringer bead on scrap before touching the project.

No. Load 0.030 to 0.035 in flux-cored wire and run it gasless. For solid-wire MIG, connect a cylinder through the included gas hose; the machine has a built-in gas solenoid.
Yes. Use the included 110V pigtail adapter on a 20 amp circuit. On 110V the output tops out at 120 A MIG and 110 A stick; plug into 220V for the full 160 A.
PrimeWeld rates it for mild steel up to 1/4 in thick. It also runs stick electrodes through the included 10 ft electrode holder for thicker or dirtier work.
PrimeWeld covers the MIG160 with a 3-year warranty and US-based support six days a week, plus parts ordering five days a week.
