Description

Getting older does not mean slowing down, and Purina Equine Senior Active Horse Feed is built for the horse who still has miles left in them. This concentrated pelleted and extruded ration is meant to be fed alongside hay or pasture, so the senior who can still chew forage gets the aging-specific nutrition without the bulk of a complete feed. Ten percent fat from multiple energy sources keeps an active older horse in work, while controlled starch and sugar keeps the meal appropriate for a horse that has grown carbohydrate sensitive.

Key Features

  • Concentrated senior nutrition: Formulated for the aging horse that can still eat hay or graze, so you feed less per meal than a complete feed.
  • Energy for real work: 10% fat plus highly digestible fiber and beet pulp fuel light, moderate, and heavy work as well as breeding and gestation.
  • Controlled starch and sugar: Guaranteed at 9% maximum dietary starch and 7% maximum sugars for carbohydrate-sensitive seniors.
  • ActivAge prebiotic: Purina's exclusive senior ingredient, studied to support immune function, mobility, and metabolic response.
  • Outlast gastric support: Supports gastric health and comfort through travel, hauling, and competition; a 4 lb meal supplies a full serving.
  • Amplify high-fat nugget: Multiple fatty acid sources help hold body condition and bring out shine and bloom.
  • Elevated amino acids and trace minerals: 0.90% lysine, 80 ppm copper, and 280 ppm zinc support muscle, hoof, and coat quality.

Feeding Directions

Feed with a minimum of 12 lbs of hay or equivalent pasture for a 1,000 lb horse, then add about 3.5 lbs of Equine Senior Active per day at maintenance, 5.5 lbs in light work, 7.25 lbs in moderate work, or 9.25 lbs in heavy work. Figure roughly 2.75 lbs and 4.25 lbs at maintenance for 800 lb and 1,200 lb horses. Broodmares take about 3.75 lbs in early gestation and 5.5 lbs in the last 90 days; breeding stallions about 6.5 lbs. Cut the feed by 1.0 lb for every extra 2.0 lbs of hay, never drop below 0.3 lbs per 100 lbs of body weight, and split the day into at least two meals. Change feeds gradually over 7 to 10 days and keep fresh water and salt available.

Caution: Follow label directions. Feeding added selenium at levels in excess of 0.3 ppm in the total diet is prohibited. Wash hands after feeding or handling animals. Not for human consumption. Wash feed and water containers regularly.
