Feeding Directions
To stretch existing forage, swap in 1 lb of pellets for every 1 to 2 lbs of hay the horse would normally eat. To feed it as the complete diet with no hay at all, a 1,000 lb horse at maintenance takes about 16.5 lbs per day, light work about 18.3 lbs, and moderate work about 22 lbs; a 1,400 lb horse runs 23.3, 25.6, and 30.5 lbs across those same categories. Split the daily amount into at least two or three meals, and weigh the feed periodically rather than trusting a scoop, since pellet density changes with batch. Start at the rate listed for the horse’s body weight, watch condition for a couple of weeks, then adjust up or down by as much as 10% to hold the shape you want. Always provide fresh, clean water.
