Feeding Directions
Feed Strategy GX with at least 1 to 1.2 lb of clean hay or equivalent pasture per 100 lb of body weight. A 1,000 lb horse begins around 5.75 lb per day in light work, 7.75 lb in moderate work, 9.75 lb in heavy work and 14.5 lb in very heavy work. Mares take about 4 lb per day in early gestation, 5.75 lb in late gestation and 12.75 lb during lactation when fed separately, while a breeding stallion runs near 6.75 lb. Weaned foals and yearlings from 300 to 700 lb generally eat 7.25 to 10.25 lb per day, using the lower end for moderate growth. Give it two to four weeks at a starting rate, then adjust by about 10 percent to reach the condition you want. Hold mature horses to at least 0.3 lb per 100 lb of body weight per day and yearlings to at least 0.75 lb per 100 lb. Feed at regular times, twice daily at minimum and three times if you can, from troughs at normal head height or lower, and never free choice. Move to a new feed gradually across 7 to 10 days, changing no more than 1 lb per horse per day.
Caution: Store in a dry, well-ventilated area protected from rodents and insects. Do not feed moldy or insect-infested feed to animals, as it may cause illness, performance loss or death. Reduce or delay feeding any horse that is hot, excited, showing pain, feverish or scouring, and check with your veterinarian if problems arise.
