Description

Branch a 1/4 in. drip line straight off your main tubing with the Rain Bird SPB-025 1/4 in. Self-Piercing Barb Connector. The small plastic fitting has a pointed self-piercing barb on the inlet that punches its own hole in 1/2 in. or 3/4 in. drip tubing, and a gray 1/4 in. barb on the outlet that grips XQ distribution tubing. Gray marks it as a full-flow connector, meaning nothing inside restricts the water, so it feeds a micro-spray, a bubbler or a run of emitters from a single tap. Drive it in with the Rain Bird Xeriman tool and move on to the next plant.

Key Features

  • Self-piercing inlet: The barb cuts its own hole in 1/2 in. or 3/4 in. drip tubing, no punch needed.
  • 1/4 in. barb outlet: Accepts Rain Bird XQ 1/4 in. distribution tubing.
  • Full flow: The gray outlet barb signals an unrestricted connector for feeding sprays, bubblers or several emitters downstream.
  • Tool-friendly stem: Seats quickly with the XM-TOOL Xeriman tool.
  • About Rain Bird: The SPB-025 is one of the 1/4 in. barbed transfer fittings in Rain Bird’s Xeri drip line, alongside the XBF elbows, couplings and tees.

How to Use It

Lay out the 1/2 in. or 3/4 in. main line first and decide where each 1/4 in. branch should leave it. Set the connector on the tip of the Xeriman tool, press the self-piercing barb through the tubing wall and pull the tool away. Push 1/4 in. distribution tubing onto the gray outlet, run it to the plant and finish with an emitter, micro-spray or bubbler. Keep operating pressure between 0 and 50 psi and use the connector for lines that need unrestricted flow; where you want the flow metered, choose a pressure-compensating emitter at the end of the run instead. If a branch is no longer needed, pull the connector and close the hole with a goof plug.

No. The inlet barb is self-piercing and cuts its own hole in 1/2 in. or 3/4 in. drip tubing, especially when driven with the Xeriman tool.
Gray indicates a full-flow connector with no internal restriction, so water passes freely to whatever you attach on the 1/4 in. side.
Rain Bird XQ 1/4 in. distribution tubing pushes onto the outlet barb.
The connector is rated for 0 to 50 psi, which covers typical regulated drip zones.
