How to Use

Feed by weight against your horse’s body weight. Mature horses at maintenance take 0.40 to 0.65 lb per 100 lb of body weight per day, light exercise 0.45 to 0.70 lb and moderate exercise 0.55 to 0.75 lb; horses kept on diets with minimal hay need 1.00 to 1.25 lb. Split the total into at least two feedings and adjust for condition. Offer good-quality hay or pasture, free-choice salt and plenty of fresh water at all times. Store in a cool, dry place. This feed contains supplemental copper – do not feed it to sheep.

Feed 0.40 to 0.65 lb per 100 lb of body weight daily for a mature horse at maintenance, which works out to roughly 4.5 to 7 lb for an 1,100 lb horse. Raise the rate to 1.00 to 1.25 lb per 100 lb when your horse eats little or no hay, since this is a complete feed. Weigh the feed rather than scooping, because one quart weighs only about 0.85 lb.
It is built for senior and prematurely aging horses, especially those with worn or missing teeth that struggle to chew hay. It also suits adult horses whose veterinarian has asked for a low starch and sugar diet because of digestive or metabolic concerns. Horses in heavy work or hard keepers are better served by Sentinel Active Senior.
Every particle is a light, airy nugget rather than a mix of loose grains and molasses. The texture softens readily and can be soaked into a mash for horses that quid or bolt their feed. Because extruded feed carries more nutrition per pound, most horses need less volume than they would with a textured feed.
Keep the bag closed in a cool, dry place off the floor and use it while fresh, as the feed is perishable and can degrade in heat or humidity. It is already fortified with vitamins, organic trace minerals and probiotics, so extra vitamin and mineral products are usually unnecessary. Note that the copper level makes it unsafe for sheep sharing a barn.
