Description
Add a sprinkler or riser to a poly main line without cutting in a whole new manifold with the Spears 1402-130 1 in. x 1 in. x 1/2 in. PVC Insert Reducing Tee. The gray molded fitting has a barbed insert end on each side of the run that grips 1 in. polyethylene pipe under a clamp, and a 1/2 in. female NPT branch in the middle that takes a threaded riser, swing joint or adapter. Cut the poly line, push the tee in, clamp it and screw in the branch, and a new head is fed from the existing run. PVC construction resists corrosion and chemicals and carries NSF certification for potable water.
Key Features
- Insert x insert x FPT: Two 1 in. barbed ends for poly pipe and a 1/2 in. female-threaded branch outlet.
- Threaded branch: Accepts a 1/2 in. riser, cut-off nipple or male adapter to feed a sprinkler head or drip zone.
- Reducing design: Steps a 1 in. main down to a 1/2 in. outlet in one fitting.
- Gray PVC: Molded, chemical and corrosion resistant, NSF certified for potable water.
- About Spears: The 1402 series is Spears Manufacturing’s reducing insert tee line for polyethylene irrigation pipe.
How to Install It
Cut the 1 in. poly pipe where the new head will sit and slide a stainless clamp over each open end. Warm the pipe ends slightly in the sun or with hot water if they are stiff, push each end fully over a barb and tighten the clamps just behind the barb ridges. Wrap the riser threads with PTFE tape and screw it into the 1/2 in. branch by hand plus a turn, then top it with the sprinkler head or drip adapter. Use this tee wherever a lawn head, a bubbler or a bed feed needs to come off a buried poly lateral. Flush the line before installing the nozzle so no shavings from the cut reach the head.
