Spears® 1429-010 Standard Coupling, 1 in., Insert × Insert, PVC, Domestic

Description

The Spears® 1429-010 is the 1 in. PVC coupling that joins two pieces of 1 in. flexible polyethylene irrigation tubing — barbed insert ends on both sides, no thread, no cement. Push the poly onto each end, cinch with a hose clamp, done. Molded dark-grey UV-stable PVC, Spears USA marking, domestic-manufactured to ASTM D2466.

Why You'd Reach for the 1429-010

  • Two barbed insert ends in line — the simplest in-line joiner for 1 in. flexible polyethylene tubing; no thread tape, no solvent cement, no rubber gasket, no leak path
  • Retention ribs on each barb — the molded ridge profile grips the poly inner wall; cinch with a stainless screw clamp or pinch clamp on each end for a long-term joint that holds at full irrigation pressure
  • Repair-and-extend fitting for poly mainlines — the part you reach for when a section of 1 in. poly needs to be cut and re-joined, or a buried run needs to extend past where the original ended
  • Dark-grey UV-stable PVC — molded for outdoor / surface-exposed irrigation lines; doesn't require burial like white SCH 40 PVC pipe fittings
  • NSF-certified domestic manufacture — carries the “NSF-pw” mark for potable-water service, made in the U.S.A.
  • Manufactured per ASTM D2466 — the controlling spec for PVC pressure pipe fittings
  • Spears USA, domestic manufacture — computer-stress-analyzed mold design with reinforced material at the barb shoulders where clamp pressure concentrates

Where It Fits in the System

  • Drip irrigation submain extensions: when a 1 in. buried poly drip submain needs to extend past its original endpoint, splice in more poly with a 1429-010 on each end.
  • Cut-and-splice repairs: a 1 in. poly line that gets damaged (dig strike, root crack, freeze split) gets cut on both sides of the damage, a new section of poly dropped in, and a 1429-010 coupling on each end. No cementing, no curing time — pressurize as soon as the clamps are tight.
  • Sprinkler zone lateral build-outs: every poly-to-poly joint in a flexible-poly zone uses a 1429-010 (where rigid PVC zones use the white SCH 40 429 series equivalent).
  • Pond, water-feature, pool-system plumbing: joining 1 in. flexible poly sections of a return line or filtration loop without going to threaded or socketed PVC.
  • Workshop / hobby plumbing: anywhere two pieces of 1 in. poly tubing need to chain together at low or medium pressure.

Specifications

Installation Notes

Both ends are barbed inserts — same procedure on each: Cut the poly square. Warm the poly tubing in hot water for 30 seconds if it's a cold-day install (makes the insert push-fit easier). Push the barb fully into the poly so the pipe is seated past the last retention rib. Secure with a stainless steel hose clamp or pinch clamp positioned over the barbed section — tighten until the clamp screw is snug but not over-deformed.

Repeat for the second end with the same poly-warming and clamping procedure. Both ends need clamps — an un-clamped barb joint can creep loose under temperature cycling and irrigation surge pressure.

Non-directional: the coupling is symmetric; install whichever way the run requires.

No cement, no cure time — unlike SCH 40 PVC fittings, this coupling can be pressurized as soon as both clamps are tightened. Useful for emergency repairs where the system needs to go back into service quickly.
