Spears® 1436-010 Male Adapter, 1 in., Insert × MNPT, PVC, Domestic

Description

The Spears® 1436-010 is the 1 in. PVC adapter that converts a flexible polyethylene insert end into a male NPT thread on the other side. Barbed insert end pushes into 1 in. flex poly tubing; male NPT end threads into any 1 in. female NPT port. Molded dark-grey UV-stable PVC, hex wrench-flat collar between the two ends, Spears USA marking, domestic-manufactured to ASTM D2466.

Why You'd Reach for the 1436-010

  • Barbed insert end x male NPT thread end — the standard 1 in. transition between flexible poly irrigation tubing and threaded plumbing in a single, in-line fitting
  • Insert end takes 1 in. flex poly — molded retention ribs grip the poly inner wall; cinch with a stainless screw clamp or pinch clamp for a long-term joint
  • Male NPT end threads into any 1 in. female NPT port — valve inlets, threaded sprinkler-zone tail-outs, brass nipples, pump ports, filter housings
  • Hex wrench-flat collar between the ends — molded into the body so a strap wrench (or open-end wrench if needed) grips the fitting directly without spreading PVC stress around the body
  • Dark-grey UV-stable PVC — molded for outdoor / surface-exposed irrigation lines; doesn't require burial like white SCH 40 PVC pipe fittings
  • NSF-certified domestic manufacture — carries the “NSF-pw” mark for potable-water service, made in the U.S.A.
  • Manufactured per ASTM D2466 — the controlling spec for PVC pressure pipe fittings
  • Spears USA, domestic manufacture — computer-stress-analyzed mold with reinforced material at the thread base where male-NPT torque concentrates

Where It Fits in the System

  • Poly mainline-to-valve transitions (the classic use): when a 1 in. flex poly mainline needs to connect into a valve manifold or threaded zone tail-out, the 1436-010 is the part that threads into the valve and clamps into the poly.
  • Pump and filter feeds: 1 in. female-NPT pump suction / discharge ports and pressurized filter inlets accept the male NPT end of the 1436-010 directly; the barb end takes the poly supply.
  • Drip system inlets: the threaded inlet of a drip pressure regulator, filter assembly, or distribution manifold takes the male NPT end; the barb side accepts the 1 in. poly feed.
  • Hose-bib and yard-hydrant feeds: a buried 1 in. poly supply line terminates at a wall- or post-mounted hose bib via a 1436-010 male adapter into the bib's female NPT inlet.
  • Workshop / hobby plumbing: anywhere a 1 in. poly run needs to transition to threaded plumbing.

Specifications

  • Manufacturer: Spears Manufacturing Company
  • Manufacturer part number: 1436-010 (bulk-pack catalog code: 1436-010BC)
  • First Supply item number: PIMAG
  • Series: 1436 (Insert × MNPT male adapter, dark-grey UV-stable PVC)

  • Suitable for: cold water only (for hot water above 73°F, choose a different fitting material)

Installation Notes

Barb end into poly pipe: Cut the poly square. Warm the poly tubing in hot water for 30 seconds if it's a cold-day install (makes the insert push-fit easier). Push the barb fully into the poly so the pipe is seated past the last retention rib. Secure with a stainless steel hose clamp or pinch clamp positioned over the barbed section — tighten until the clamp screw is snug but not over-deformed.

Male NPT thread end: 2 to 3 wraps of PTFE thread tape (white tape is correct for PVC-on-PVC; pink heavy-duty for metal-to-PVC) clockwise around the male threads. Hand-thread into the receiving female NPT port plus 1 to 2 turns with a strap wrench gripping the molded hex collar.

DO NOT over-tighten. The thread interference is what seals the joint, not the torque. PVC male threads will bottom out and the receiving female port (PVC or metal) can split if cranked too hard. Hand-tight + 1 to 2 wrench turns is the target; if the joint weeps, replace the tape and re-thread — don't keep tightening. Over-tightening is the #1 cause of cracked male-adapter joints in the field.

Use a strap wrench on the molded hex collar, not channel locks on the body: the hex is there for exactly this; channel locks on the PVC body itself concentrate stress and can crack the wall.
