Description
The Spears® 429-007 is the 3/4 in. PVC coupling crews go through by the bag — the basic in-line joiner for two pieces of 3/4 in. schedule 40 PVC pipe. Both ends are slip-cement sockets; prime, cement, push, hold. Molded white PVC, Spears USA marking, domestic-manufactured to ASTM D2466.
Why You'd Reach for the 429-007
- Two solvent-weld sockets in line — the simplest possible joiner for 3/4 in. schedule 40 PVC pipe; no thread tape, no rubber gasket, no leak path
- Chemically-welded joint as strong as the pipe — properly primed and cemented, the bond is a fused PVC plastic union rather than a mechanical seal
- Repair-and-extend fitting: the part you reach for when a pipe needs to be cut and re-joined, or a section needs to extend past where the original run ended
- Molded PVC (Type I, cell class 12454) — conforms to ASTM D1784; chemically resistant to soil acids, irrigation fertilizers, chlorine, and typical municipal water
- Schedule 40 / standard dimensions — matches any 3/4 in. schedule 40 PVC pipe and fitting in the system
- Manufactured per ASTM D2466 — the controlling spec for PVC pressure pipe fittings; carries the NSF-pw mark for potable water service
- Spears USA, domestic manufacture — computer-stress-analyzed mold design with the molded internal seating ring that gives the socket joint its full bond depth
Where It Fits in the System
- Pipe extensions: when a 3/4 in. PVC run needs to extend past its original endpoint, cement a 429-007 onto the end and add more pipe.
- Cut-and-splice repairs: a 3/4 in. line that gets damaged (dig strike, root crack, freeze split) gets cut on both sides of the damage, a new section dropped in, and a 429-007 coupling on each end.
- Sprinkler lateral build-outs: every joint that isn't a tee, elbow, or adapter is a coupling. Standard residential 3/4 in. zone lines use one per pipe section transition.
- Drip irrigation submains: joining 3/4 in. PVC sections of a buried drip submain before the transition to flexible poly distribution.
- Pool and water-feature plumbing: wherever 3/4 in. PVC sections need to chain together in a non-pressurized or low-pressure run.

Installation Notes
Both ends are slip sockets — same procedure on each: Square-cut and de-burr the pipe end. Dry-fit into the socket to verify the pipe seats fully against the internal seating ring (~half the coupling's length on each side). Apply Spears P-70 (or equivalent) PVC primer to both the pipe end and the inside of the socket — the primer is what chemically softens the PVC for cementing; skipping it is the most common reason a joint fails. Apply medium-bodied PVC solvent cement to both surfaces. Push the pipe fully into the socket and rotate 1/4 turn to spread the cement and eliminate dry spots. Hold the joint for 30 seconds.
Repeat for the second end with the same primer and cement procedure. If you're using the coupling to splice between two existing pipe ends, work both joints quickly — medium-bodied cement gives you ~15 seconds of working time on 3/4 in. pipe before it sets.
Cure: 1 hour before low-pressure water test; 24 hours before full operating pressure. Cold-weather installs (below 60°F) need longer cure — double the times below 40°F.
Non-directional: the coupling is symmetric; install whichever way the run requires.
