Spears 429 Series Schedule 40 PVC Coupling

Size: 1"

Description

Join two runs of sprinkler pipe into one straight line with the Spears 429 Series Schedule 40 PVC Coupling. This plain white socket-by-socket fitting slips over the plain ends of two pipes of the same diameter and solvent-welds into a joint with a smooth bore, so water moves through without a lip to catch on. Choose the 3/4 in. coupling (part 429-007) or the 1 in. coupling (part 429-010) to match your lateral line. Molded PVC shrugs off corrosion and soil chemistry, weighs far less than a metal fitting and is NSF certified for potable water, which makes it right for irrigation mains, garden supply lines and general plumbing repairs alike.

Key Features

  • Socket x socket: Both ends accept plain-end Schedule 40 pipe for a solvent-cemented straight connection.
  • Two sizes: 3/4 in. (429-007) and 1 in. (429-010) to match common residential irrigation pipe.
  • Corrosion-proof PVC: Resists chemicals and rust and weighs less than metal, with a maximum operating temperature of 140 F.
  • Certified: Meets ASTM D1784 and D2466 and is NSF certified for potable water service.
  • About Spears: Spears Manufacturing molds its Schedule 40 white PVC fittings in the U.S.A., and the 429 series is its standard socket coupling line.

How to Install It

Cut both pipe ends square, deburr them and dry-fit the coupling to confirm the sizes match. Apply PVC primer to the pipe ends and inside both sockets, brush on solvent cement, push each pipe fully into its socket with a quarter turn and hold for a few seconds while the joint grabs. Wipe away the excess and let the cement cure per the can before pressurizing the line. Reach for the coupling to extend a lateral past a new bed, repair a section a shovel found, or tie new pipe into an existing run. For a repair on a line that cannot flex, use the Spears short repair coupling instead; for a change from glued pipe to a threaded valve or riser, use a 435 series female adapter.
