Description
The Spears® 435-007 is the 3/4 in. PVC adapter that converts a solvent-weld socket on one end into a female NPT thread on the other. Slip-cement onto schedule 40 PVC pipe on the socket end; thread a male-NPT fitting (sprinkler riser, brass nipple, threaded valve outlet, hose bib) into the FNPT end. Molded white PVC, Spears USA marking, domestic-manufactured to ASTM D2466.
Why You'd Reach for the 435-007
- Solvent-weld socket on one end, female NPT thread on the other — the standard 3/4 in. transition between cemented PVC and threaded plumbing in a single, in-line fitting
- Cemented socket joint to PVC pipe — primed and chemically welded; no rubber seal, no thread tape, no leak path on the PVC side
- Female NPT thread receives any male 3/4 in. NPT fitting — sprinkler-head risers, threaded valve outlets, brass nipples, hose bibs, pop-up nipples, pressure-regulator inlets
- Molded PVC (Type I, cell class 12454) — conforms to ASTM D1784; chemically resistant to soil acids, irrigation fertilizers, chlorine, and typical municipal water
- Schedule 40 / standard dimensions — matches any 3/4 in. schedule 40 PVC pipe and fitting in the system
- Manufactured per ASTM D2466 — the controlling spec for PVC pressure pipe fittings; carries the NSF-pw mark for potable water service
- Spears USA, domestic manufacture — computer-stress-analyzed mold with reinforced material at the thread base where over-torquing is most likely to crack lesser PVC adapters
Where It Fits in the System
- Sprinkler-head risers (the classic use): at the end of a 3/4 in. PVC lateral, cement on a 435-007 and thread in a male-NPT pop-up riser or pop-up nipple. Standard 3/4 in. residential-zone build-out.
- Hose bib / spigot drops: bring a buried 3/4 in. PVC supply up to a wall-mounted hose bib that uses 3/4 in. female NPT — the 435-007 lives at the top of the riser.
- Valve and equipment inlets: pump suction / discharge, filter housing inlets, pressure tank ports — most take 3/4 in. male NPT and thread directly into the 435-007.
- Drip irrigation manifolds: threaded inlet to a drip filter, regulator, or distribution manifold from a cemented PVC submain.
- Frost-free hydrant feeds and yard hydrants: the cement-to-thread transition at the buried PVC supply.

Installation Notes
Socket end onto PVC pipe: Dry-fit first to verify orientation — the threaded port will end up wherever the socket is rotated when the cement sets. Apply Spears P-70 (or equivalent) PVC primer to both the pipe end and the inside of the socket. Apply medium-bodied PVC solvent cement to both surfaces. Push the pipe fully into the socket and rotate 1/4 turn to spread the cement. Hold the joint for 30 seconds.
Female NPT thread: 2 to 3 wraps of PTFE thread tape (or pipe dope) on the MALE fitting that threads into the 435-007's female port. Hand-tighten plus 1 to 2 turns with a strap wrench. DO NOT over-tighten. PVC female threads can split if you crank a male fitting too hard. If the joint leaks at proper torque, replace the tape and try again — don't keep tightening. Over-tightening is the #1 cause of cracked PVC female-thread adapters in the field.
Use a strap wrench, not channel locks, on the PVC side: a metal pipe wrench digs into PVC and concentrates stress. Strap wrenches spread the load around the body and prevent point-stress cracks.
Cure: 1 hour before low-pressure water test; 24 hours before full operating pressure.
