Description
Bridge the gap between glued pipe and a threaded valve with the Spears 435-010 1 in. Schedule 40 PVC Female Adapter. One end of this white fitting is a 1 in. socket that solvent-welds onto plain-end pipe; the other is a 1 in. female NPT thread that accepts any male-threaded valve, riser, union or brass nipple. That makes it the fitting you use to land a sprinkler valve on a PVC manifold, hang a hose bib off a garden line or connect a threaded filter to a drip main. Rated to 450 psi and 32 to 140 F, corrosion-proof and NSF certified for potable water, it is molded in the U.S.A. for long, quiet service underground.

How to Install It
Make the threaded joint first. Wrap the male threads of the valve or riser with PTFE tape, start it by hand into the female adapter and tighten one to two turns past hand-tight with a strap wrench; over-tightening a plastic thread can split it. Then prime the pipe end and the adapter socket, apply solvent cement, push the pipe in with a quarter turn and hold until it sets. Use a pair of adapters on either side of a valve so the valve can be unscrewed for service without cutting pipe. The same fitting lets you screw a threaded hose bib, backflow preventer or drip filter onto a glued line. Cure fully before pressure testing.
