Description
Close off the end of a pipe run cleanly with the Spears 447-007 3/4 in. Schedule 40 PVC Cap. The small white dome has a single 3/4 in. socket that slides over plain-end pipe or the spigot of a fitting and solvent-welds into a permanent seal, so a stubbed-out lateral, a future zone or an abandoned branch stays dry and out of the way. Molded PVC will not rust, resists chemicals in the soil and weighs almost nothing, and the fitting carries NSF certification for potable water alongside ASTM D1784 and D2466 compliance. Keep a few in the irrigation bin; they are the simplest way to end a line.

How to Install It
Cut the pipe square and deburr the edge, then dry-fit the cap to check the depth. Prime the outside of the pipe and the inside of the socket, apply solvent cement to both, push the cap on with a slight twist until it bottoms out and hold it for a few seconds. Let the joint cure for the time listed on the cement before charging the line. Use a cap to stub out a lateral where you plan to add a bed next season, to finish the end of a manifold or to blank off a zone you no longer water. If you expect to reopen the line often, thread a 435 series female adapter on the end and use a threaded plug instead, since a glued cap must be cut off to remove it.
