Description
The Spears® 474-010 is the 1 in. transition fitting irrigation crews keep in the truck for the joint nobody warned them about — barbed insert end pushes into 1 in. flexible poly pipe, socket end solvent-welds onto 1 in. schedule 40 PVC. Molded white PVC, Spears USA marking, domestic-manufactured to SCH 40 / standard dimensions.

Installation Notes
Barb end into poly pipe: Cut the poly square. Warm the poly tubing in hot water for 30 seconds if it’s a cold-day install (makes the insert push-fit easier). Push the barb fully into the pipe so the poly is seated past the third retention rib. Secure with a stainless steel hose clamp or pinch clamp positioned over the barbed section — tighten until the clamp screw is snug but not over-deformed.
Socket end into PVC pipe: Dry-fit first to verify the lay-up. Apply Spears P-70 (or equivalent) primer to BOTH the pipe end and the inside of the socket. Apply PVC solvent cement (medium-bodied for 1 in.) to both surfaces. Push the pipe fully into the socket and rotate 1/4 turn to spread the cement. Hold for 30 seconds. Cure for 1 hour before low-pressure water test; 24 hours before full pressure.
Flow direction: non-directional — this is a passive transition fitting, install it whichever way the run requires.
