Description

Fix a cracked sprinkler line in a tight trench without bending the pipe with the Spears S118 Series PVC Short Repair Coupling. Sold in stores as the Flo-Span short coupling, this white PVC fitting has a spigot on one end and a socket on the other, and the two halves telescope: collapse it to drop into the gap, then extend it to bridge the cut-out section while an EPDM O-ring seals the sliding joint. Pick the 3/4 in. coupling (S118-07) or the 1 in. coupling (S118-10) to match your pipe. Rated for irrigation and residential water, it meets ASTM D2467 and NSF/ANSI 61 Annex G for potable water.

Key Features

  • Telescoping repair: Collapses to fit the gap, then extends to close it, so neither pipe end has to move.
  • Spigot x socket: One end glues into a socket, the other accepts pipe in its own socket, with an EPDM O-ring on the sliding section.
  • Two sizes: 3/4 in. (S118-07) and 1 in. (S118-10) for common residential laterals.
  • Weather-proof seal: The EPDM O-ring resists weathering, ozone, UV, oils, water and steam.
  • About Spears: The S118 line is Spears Manufacturing’s short repair coupling family for Schedule 40 PVC systems.

How to Install It

Shut the water off and cut out the damaged section with square cuts, leaving a gap the collapsed coupling can drop into. Deburr and clean both pipe ends. Prime and cement the socket end of the coupling onto one pipe end, then prime and cement a standard coupling on the other pipe end to receive the spigot. Slide the repair coupling shut, apply cement to the spigot and extend it into the waiting socket, holding for a few seconds. Let everything cure before restoring pressure. Because the telescoping section does the reaching, this fitting works where a buried line cannot be lifted, alongside a wall or under pavers. Keep one of each size in the truck for spring start-up surprises.

It telescopes. You collapse it to fit into the gap left by a cut-out section, then extend it to reach the far pipe, so neither pipe end has to flex.
Two: 3/4 in. (part S118-07) and 1 in. (part S118-10). Match the size to your pipe.
