Description

Keep an older horse eating well with Triple Crown Safe Starch Fortified Forage, a chopped hay diet that stands in for grain entirely. Each 40 lb bag is half timothy and half orchard grass hay, fortified with the vitamins and minerals a mature horse needs, and built with no whole grains and no molasses at all. Dietary starch tops out at 1.50% and ESC sugars at 6.50%, so horses with insulin sensitivity, worn teeth, or nothing but poor hay in front of them can hold their weight without the sugar spike that comes with a sweet feed.

Key Features

  • Whole grain and molasses free: Nothing in the bag encourages a starch or sugar surge, which makes it a safe choice for metabolic horses.
  • Very low starch and sugar: 1.50% maximum dietary starch, 6.50% maximum ESC sugars, and an estimated NSC of 9.9%.
  • Chopped forage base: A 50/50 timothy and orchard grass blend that a horse with poor teeth can actually chew and swallow.
  • Complete fortification: 11% protein, 6% fat, 28% fiber, and roughly 1,100 kcal per pound, plus balanced calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and organic trace minerals.
  • Live microbials and enzymes: 1.88 billion CFU per pound of direct-fed microbials with added cellulase and protease to help fiber digestion.
  • Soaks into a mash: Add water to aid hydration, soften the ration, or slow a horse that bolts its feed.

Feeding Directions

Work from the horse’s job and body weight. For an 1,100 lb horse, feed 4 to 6 lb per day alongside hay or pasture, 10 lb per day when you are replacing feed or grain, or 15 to 20 lb per day when this is the entire diet. If you are using it as a grain replacement, keep at least 0.50% of body weight in hay or pasture in the ration. It can also be mixed into the grain portion of a meal to slow intake down. Adjust up or down to hold the body condition you want, and make any change gradually. Provide salt and plenty of fresh, clean water at all times, store the bag somewhere cool and dry, and look the product over daily — do not feed it if it is old, moldy, or has insects in it.

Caution: Follow label directions. Chromium supplementation should not exceed 4 mg per day. This product contains copper — do not feed it to sheep.
