Description
Slice through sod, edge a bed and lift a shrub for transplanting with the Vulcan Fiberglass D-Handle Garden Spade. The head is a 7" wide by 11" long tempered steel blade with a lacquered, tumble-finished surface that sheds soil, and oversized steps across the top give your boot a solid platform to drive it down. A crimped collar locks the head to a 29" fiberglass shaft topped with a D-grip, so the whole tool comes in at about 41" and 3.2 lb, light to swing and stiff enough to pry.

How to Use It
Hold the D-grip with one hand and the shaft with the other, set the blade edge where you want the cut and step onto the oversized step to drive it in. For edging, keep the blade vertical and work along a string line or hose for a crisp border. To dig a planting hole, cut a circle of slices first, then lever each one out; the flat blade squares up the sides so the root ball sits level. For transplanting, cut around the drip line, rock the spade under the roots and lift with your legs while the D-grip keeps the head steady. Knock the soil off and hang it dry; the lacquered head and fiberglass shaft need no oiling.
