Description

Reach the hindquarters of a big horse from the center of the circle with the Weaver Lunge Whip with Rubber Handle, 73". The extra-long 73-inch shaft, 75-inch lash and 11-1/2-inch popper give you more reach than a standard 65-inch lunge whip, so you can cue a tall or lazy horse on a 60-foot circle without stepping toward it. A comfortable rubber handle fills the hand and will not twist when you swing, and the lightweight shaft and lash stay quiet in the air through a long ground-work session. Choose classic Red, bright Pink/Black or Hurricane Blue/Black to match your lunge line and halter.

Key Features of This 73-Inch Lunge Whip

  • 73-inch shaft: Eight inches longer than a standard lunge whip for extra reach on large horses and big circles.
  • 75-inch lash and 11-1/2-inch popper: Long enough to pop behind the horse for a clear forward cue without touching it.
  • Rubber handle: Cushioned, textured grip that stays put in sweaty hands or gloves.
  • Lightweight and balanced: Easy to hold up through lunging, long-lining and free-lunging sessions.
  • Three colors: Red, Pink/Black or Hurricane Blue/Black to coordinate with Weaver lunge lines and halters.

How to Use

Hold the lunge line in the hand closest to the horse's head and the whip in the other hand, pointed at the hindquarters. Ask for forward with your voice first, then lift the whip or flick the lash toward the hocks if the horse ignores you, and lower it as soon as the horse responds. Point the whip at the shoulder to push the horse out on the circle and drop it behind you to ask for a halt. For long-lining, carry it in the outside hand and use it only as a reminder. Keep the lash from wrapping around the shaft between uses, wipe the whip with a damp cloth when muddy, and hang it to store so the shaft stays straight. Wear gloves and keep the lash clear of your own feet.

Choose Your Color

All three colors are the same 73-inch whip with the same lash, popper and rubber handle. Pick Red for a solid-color whip that is easy to spot, Pink/Black for a pink shaft over a black handle, or Hurricane Blue/Black for a sky-blue shaft over a black handle.

The shaft is 73 in., the lash adds 75 in. and the popper another 11-1/2 in., so the whip reaches about 13 ft from your hand to the tip of the popper when extended.
The 73 in. whip gives extra reach for tall horses, large circles and long-lining. The 65 in. version is lighter and easier for smaller handlers or ponies. Both have the same rubber handle.
Rarely. Most horses respond to the whip being raised or the lash being flicked toward the hocks. Reserve an actual touch for a horse that ignores the cue, and always drop the whip as soon as the horse moves forward.
The popper is tied to the end of the lash. Weaver sells replacement poppers separately; ask us about ordering one if yours wears out.
Hang it by the handle or lay it flat so the shaft does not take a set, and coil the lash loosely so it does not kink. Wipe it with a damp cloth when muddy and let it dry.
Pink/Black and Hurricane Blue/Black have a colored shaft over a black rubber handle. Red is a solid red shaft with a black handle.
