Description

Give your horse serious cold-weather protection with the Weaver Premium Turnout Blanket, Heavy Weight 300g, 1200D. A waterproof, breathable 1200-denier ripstop outer shrugs off rain, mud, fence rubs and pasture roughhousing, while 300 grams of fill deliver heavy-weight warmth for the coldest turnout days. New extra-large shoulder gussets let your horse stride, graze and roll without binding, sewn-in D-rings take a matching Weaver neck cover for head-to-tail coverage, and reflective tracers along the seams make a turned-out horse easy to spot at dusk. Snap front closures and surcingle buckles adjust the fit and go on fast in cold hands. Choose Black, Dazzling Blue, Purple or Teal in sizes from 72" to 81".

Key Features of This 1200D Turnout Blanket

  • Waterproof 1200D ripstop shell: Twice the denier of a standard turnout for horses that are hard on blankets.
  • 300g heavy-weight fill: Added warmth for cold-weather turnout, roughly 20 degrees F and below depending on your horse.
  • Extra-large shoulder gussets: New and improved gussets give more freedom of movement and reduce shoulder rubs.
  • Sewn-in D-rings: Secure attachment points for the matching Weaver neck cover, sold separately.
  • Reflective tracers: Reflective detailing improves visibility in low light.
  • Adjustable closures: Snap front closures and surcingle buckles for fit adjustment and easy on and off.
  • Tail flap: Covers the dock to block wind and rain from behind.

How to Use

Measure your horse from the center of the chest, along the side, to the point of the buttock; that number in inches is the blanket size. Fasten the chest snaps first, then the crossed surcingles under the belly with about a hand's width of slack. Check the fit at the withers and shoulders after the first wear and look for rubs weekly. Brush off dried mud, hose the shell, and wash in cold water with a blanket wash; air dry and re-waterproof each season. The Weaver Blanketing Made Easy guide in the Documentation section covers measuring and which weight to use at which temperature.

Choose Your Color and Size

Pick Black or Dazzling Blue in 75" or 78", Purple in 75", or Teal in 72" or 81". As a guide, 72 in. fits most horses around 14.2 to 15 hands, 75 in. about 15 to 15.2, 78 in. about 15.3 to 16.1 and 81 in. about 16.2 to 17 hands, but always measure. Weaver makes this blanket in 69 to 84 in. and five colors; ask us about ordering another size or color.

Have a helper hold a soft tape at the center of the chest, run it along the side of the horse at the widest point of the shoulder, and read it at the point of the buttock. That measurement in inches is the blanket size. The Weaver Blanketing Made Easy guide in the Documentation section walks through it with pictures.
As a rule of thumb, a 300g heavy weight suits unclipped horses at about 20 degrees F and below, and clipped horses from about 30 degrees F down. Adjust for wind, rain, shelter, age and body condition; Weaver's temperature chart is in the Documentation section.
Yes. The 1200D ripstop outer is waterproof and breathable, so rain stays out while sweat can escape. Re-waterproof the shell each season after washing.
The 1200D heavy-weight blanket has a tougher 1200-denier shell, 300g of fill and sewn-in D-rings for a neck cover. The 600D medium-weight blanket has 200g of fill for cool rather than cold weather.
No. Weaver makes matching neck covers that clip to the sewn-in D-rings; they are sold separately.
Brush off dried mud, close all straps, and wash in cold water with a blanket wash on a gentle cycle or at a blanket laundry. Air dry out of direct sun and re-apply a waterproofing spray.
