Description
Give your aquatic turtle a steady calcium supply for a hard, healthy shell with the Zoo Med Dr. Turtle Slow-Release Calcium Block, a small turtle-shaped block that simply drops into the tank water. As it dissolves over time it releases calcium for shell growth and, at the same time, neutralizes acidic water conditions, so one 0.5 oz block does double duty as a supplement and a water conditioner. The block is made from calcium sulfate with magnesium chloride and measures about 2.2 in across, sized for the water bowls and aquariums most pet turtles live in.
Key Features
- Slow-release calcium: the analysis shows a minimum of 20% and a maximum of 24% calcium, delivered gradually as the block dissolves.
- Water conditioner too: neutralizes acidic water while it supplements, keeping tank chemistry friendlier for shell growth.
- No mixing or dosing: drop it in and replace it once it has fully dissolved.
- Turtle-shaped block: roughly 2.2 in (5 cm) across, easy to spot in the tank and easy to tell when it is nearly gone.
- About Zoo Med: Zoo Med makes reptile care products in the USA, from UVB lighting and halogen heat lamps to aquatic turtle food that pair with this block.
How to Use It
Place one block into your turtle’s water supply, whether that is an aquarium, tub or outdoor pond, and leave it to dissolve on its own. When it is gone, drop in a fresh one so the calcium never lapses. Remember that calcium alone cannot build a shell: turtles also need UVB lighting to process it and a warm basking spot, so pair the block with a UVB lamp such as Zoo Med’s ReptiSun 5.0 or 10.0 and a Repti Tuff splashproof halogen for heat. Feed a balanced aquatic turtle diet alongside it. Keep the block out of reach of children before it goes in the tank.
